Tien Giang: Pangasius productivity hit 300 tons/ha

The province of Tien Giang is reported to have 130 ha of water surface for intensive pangasius farming.

By early May 2011, 40 ha has been harvested with the productivity of 300 tons/ha and an output of nearly 12,000 tons.

Now, at the farm-gate price of VND28,000/kg, Pangasius farmers are making a profit of VND3,000g -4,000/kg or VND1,2 billion/ha.

Tien Giang province has made planning for Pangasius culture in the upstream districts such as Cai Lay, Cai Be, Chau Thanh, with a total area of 900 ha. However, the actual farming area was lower than the plan due to fluctuating Pangasius price.

There are still 40 ha of farming area abandoned or shifted to other species due to the concerns about the soaring Pangasius feed cost.
