VINH HOAN CORP: VND72 Bln in profit in Q1/2011

Vinh Hoan Corp reported a revenue of VND 317 billion and after tax profit of VND 19 billion. 

By the end of Q1/2011, VHC earned US$32 million in export value, up 9 percent over the same period of last year. Its total turnover reached VND800 billion, after-tax profit VND72 billion. Read more of this post


BASEAFOOD: Business plan in 2011

In 2011, Ba Ria Vung Tau Seafood Processing Import – Export Joint Stock Company (BASEAFOOD) plans to earn VND 440 billion in revenue and VND 9.8 billion in after-tax profit. Export revenue was set at US$ 18 million.

In order to fulfill this goal, Baseafood will strive to maximize the business performance of its two supermarkets and one seafood outlet as well as the mobile seafood vans and retail chains in domestic market. Read more of this post

India: Exports skyrocket to USD 2.67 bln

Seafood export earnings for 2010-11 reached a record of USD 2.67 millions despite the global recession’s after effects.

The growth is mainly attributed to a 104 per cent-increase in exports to the US, informed the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in its provisional estimates. Read more of this post

An Giang: Seafood exports reach over US$70 million with farm gate price for pangasius at 26,000 VND

From th begining of the year, the seafood enterprise in the southern province of An Giang has purchased over 30,000 MT of pangasius raw material. It’s price was 25,500 -26,000 VND per kg, up about 8500 VND/kg

Total finished pangasius exports of the province reached 27,600 MT, worth US$70 million, equivalent to 98.6 percent in volume and 9.8 percent in valueover the same period last year. The average export price of US$2,537 per ton.

Cephalopods exports soar

According to Vietnam Customs, up to 15 March 2011, the country exported 14,670 MT of squid and octopus, valued US$ 69.3 million, up 24.5% in volume and 37.5% in value over the same period last year.

Export to Australia, Eu and Taiwan saw the strongest growth. Export to Australia were up 119.1% in volume  and 133.6% in value, to EU: up 60% and 85% respectively. Export to Taiwan also rose 69% in volume and 73.5% in value over the same period last year.  Read more of this post

Increase pangasius export price

Duong Ngoc Minh, Vice president of Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) , said VASEP has decided to raise the price of pangasius exported to Europe from  US$3.2 per  kilogram  toUS$3.4 per  kilogram. 

Pangasius exported to the  U.S. market is now at US$3.8 per kilogram will increase to over US$4 per  kilogram.

According to Minh, pangasius price increases due to raw material shortage and high price.  raw fish price is at VND 27,000 – 28,000 per kilogram. At the end of Q1/2011, Vietnam pangasius is expected  to reach US$320 million.

“Widen door” for Vietnam seafood to Japan

Japan is beginning to “revive” after double disasters. The countryconsumes 9 million MT of seafood per year, while domestic production capacity only reached 5.6 million MT. The demand for imported seafood is very large (more than 3.4 million MT per year).  For Vietnam seafood, Japan is  the third  biggest Japanese  importers with its import value of nearly $ 900 million in 2010.

Vietnamese tra fish faces nasty trick, once again

The false information released at “Pangasius Lie” by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the program broadcasted on German television one month ago, has made the demand for tra fish in the north of the Europe decrease dramatically.

At the 30 minute program, a fisheries expert of WWF, Catherine Zucco, said “tra fish are dangerous because they are being farmed on dirty waters.” Read more of this post

Vietnam needs to cooperate for sustainable tra fish farming / WWF issue

 After the World Wildlife Fund WWF put Vietnamese tra fish onto the red list, and then removed it from the list, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) have signed a memorandum of cooperation with WWF, in order to make Vietnamese tra fish into a farming product of sustainable development.

In mid April, a delegation of Vietnamese officials and businessmen from the Directorate of Fisheries, VASEP and VINAFIS arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, to have a working session with WWF on the building up of a 5-year cooperation program and discussing the implementation of the signed memorandum of cooperation.

Deputy General Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, Pham Anh Tuan, talked with Thoi bao Kinh te Saigon on the outcome of the trip.

Pangasius prices in the U.S. up 19 percent

Pangasius prices in the U.S. market varied from US$1.95 – US$2.05/pound, up 19 percent compared with the same period last year. In the first half of March 2011, the average export price to the U.S. was US$3.11/pound, up 2.9 percent against that of 2010. Read more of this post
