Jan 2011: Shrimp export reached US$146.5 Mln, up 15% year on year

In January, 198 Vietnamese companies exported 16,000 MT of shrimp to 58 countries and territories, worth US$146.5 million, an increase of 47% in value and 27.5% in volume.

Shrimp export price in Jan was at US$9.22 per kilo, up 15 percent over the same period last year.

Shrimp remained the most important seafood export item, accounting for 33.7 percent of the country’s total seafood export turnover in January 2011. Exports of two major products, black tiger shrimp and vannamei, experienced a strong growth rate, respectively up 50 percent in volume and 79 percent in value for vannamei and up 27.6 percent in volume and 40.3 percent in value for black tiger shrimp.

Vannamei export reached 4,600MT, worth US$35.7 million, accounting 24.4 percent of total shrimp export value, while black tiger shrimp shimpment reached 8,500MT, totaled US$87.3 million and almost 60 percent.
