Cermaq looks for investment in pangasius farm in Vietnam.

Cermaq could look to invest in pangasius farming in the future, Tore Valderhaug, the Oslo-listed aquaculture group’s chief financial officer said.

In his address at the North Atlantic Seafood Forum on Thursday, Valderhaug said Cermaq has looked at the possibility of investing in Vietnamese pangasius farming, but that will first concentrate on building up its joint venture (JV) feed plant in this country.

“We’ve considered at it, and also taken a look at farming activities in Vietnam. The first phase will be to get the feed plant up and running (..) and look at consolidation within the feed business in Vietnam, which we believe will happen in the next few years,” he said.

“We could also look further down the value chain there, as it is a rather immature market,” he said.

He also reminded that this was how the company came to venture into salmon and trout farming, by proceeding from feed production to further down the value chain.
