Clearly assign the inspection and monitoring agencies of seafood safety

On 20th December, 2010, the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment (MARD) issued Decision No.3408/QD-BNN-QLCL assigningthe organization of inspection and monitoring for the quality ofagricultural materials and the safety of food, agricultural-forestry-fisheryproducts under its management.
Accordingly, the Directorate of Fisheries (D-FISH) is responsible for inspecting and monitoring the production, import, transport and export of freshwater, brackish and salt seafood such as finfish, mollusk and other species.

Besides, D-FISH is also responsible for inspecting and monitoring the production, import, transport domestically and export of raw material, aqua-feed as well as products in the approved list of environmental treatment and improvement products to use in Vietnam.

MARD entrusts the Department of Animal Health with monitoring the production, import, transport domestically and export of veterinary drugs, biological products, microorganisms and veterinary chemicals (including the seafood), except the  environmental treatment and improvement products approved to use in Vietnam.

NAFIQAD implements the check and monitoring under the programs of national surveillance, inspection for fishing vessels and the activities of slaughter/pre-processing/preservation/processing, import, transport domestically and export of seafood and fish seafood products for consumption such as live, fresh or chilled finfish, excluding finfish fillets and others under HS code 03.04;…

Among all kinds of mentioned seafood and fish products for consumption, the Department of Animal Health only checks and monitors at the border gates for imported consignments.
