Vinh Long: aquaculture production hit 10,540 tons in Feb’ 2011

Recently, Vinh Long’s aquaculture production hit high despite an increase of juvenile and feed price.

According to the figure of Statistics Department, the provincial aquaculture yield in Feb’ 2011 is estimated to reach 10,540 tons, up 7,67% compared with last year. The growing output was attributed to market demand and high price of Pangasius.

Now, Pangasius is sold at 22,500-23,800/kg at farm gate, bringing a profit of VND3,000/kg to farmers.

However, many farmers are still turning their back to Pangasius farming because of high seed and feed price, fluctuating markets and lack of capital.

There are 420 ha of intensive Pangasius farming in the province, including nearly 30ha shifted to another species and nearly 95ha harvested but not yet stocked again.
